Let me start by stating the obvious. Yes, this is essentially a smoothie recipe post, but It’s so much more than that. This particular sippity sip is creamy, delish, and includes one super-power ingredient, Hawaiian Spirulina.
What is Hawaiian Spirulina, you ask?
Spirulina is a blue-green algae that grows in both fresh and saltwater – aka mermaid food.
Since I’ve been waiting to sprout my mermaid tail since I was a kid, it’s not a huge shocker that I’ve developed such a strong affinity for this under-water delight.
Fun fact: I was named Madison after Daryl Hannah’s character in the 1984 movie Splash. So yeah… mermaid vibes.
Anyway, back to the algae.
Spirulina is an algae? And that’s edible?
Not only is it edible. One serving of the vibrant green-blue superfood will jam-pack your morning smoothie with vitamins, essential and non-essential amino acids, and provide you with a more abundant source of protein than most vegetables.
The additional benefits include:
- Cardiovascular Support
- Overall Cellular Health
- Energy
- Immunity
Now you may be wondering how the “Hawaiian” part fits in
Does Spirulina only grow in Hawaii, you might ask? No. Spirulina grows all of the world, but Nutrex’s Hawaiian Spirulina is exclusively grown in Kona, Hawaii.
Firstly, the fact that this product comes directly from the dreamland that is Hawaii, I was interested.
Secondly, once I researched the high nutritional content that it provides, I was sold.
Plus, Nutrex’s environmental philosophy is to leave the land in better condition than when they found it, and I dig that.
Now, it’s been close to two years since I first tried Hawaiian Spirulina, and it’s been a staple in my morning routine ever since.
I’m not the only one who’s hooked on the stuff
According to Poosh, Kourt is too.
Her Morning Ritual Includes a teaspoon of Hawaiian Spirulina, which helps tone skin and boost radiance.

So, here’s the squeeze on my Hawaiian Spirulina Smoothie
Above all else, I use Spirulina because it strengthens the immune system, boosts energy levels, and I feel healthy AF drinking it.
Hot Tip: Once the Spirulina is opened, make sure you refrigerate it for preservation.
& that’s the squeeze.
